BADEN POWELL STREET - Walney Island

Baden Powell Street forms part of the 'Isle of Walney Estates Company' Vickerstown Estate constructed between 1900 and 1904. It takes it's name from the Boer War General and Scout leader.

Major-General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden Powell (1857 - 1941)

Baden Powell as he is more simply and commonly known, was born in 1857, making his name during the Boer war when he defended Mafeking from late-1899 to mid-1900. His career ended through retirement in 1907 although he did go on to devote the rest of his life to the Boy Scout movement.
