FRENCH STREET - Walney Island

French Street forms part of the 'Isle of Walney Estates Company' Vickerstown Estate constructed between 1900 and 1904. It takes it's name from the Boer War General.

John French Earl of Ypres (1852-1925):

French held the position of British cavalry leader during the Boer War, but later became commander of the British army during the First World War, a position which he dutifully administered until December 1915.
