WHITE STREET- Walney Island White Street forms part of the 'Isle of Walney Estates Company' Vickerstown Estate constructed between 1900 and 1904. It takes it's name from the Boer War General Sir George Stuart White.
Sir George
Stuart White (1835-1912) Sir George was born on the 6th July 1835 and was educated at Broomsgrove School, England. White was responsible for conducting the defence of Ladysmith during its siege from late- 1899 to early-1900. For his previous actions, in 1903 he was appointed to the rank of Field Marshall and in 1905 he was awarded the Order of Merit. He died on 24th June1912.
